Grand Walk - the best of Prague

 

Daily at 11:00am and 2:00pm, duration: 3½ hours

History review, stories of outstanding personalities, old customs and ceremonies, quick architecture course, drink break in the modele, tram ride to the Prague castle, Charles Bridge, Lesser Town, Old Town and Jewish Quarter.

All the beauty, you can see around went through its development in some order and arose for some reason. Following royal route we'll stop in traditional ungelt, at the start we will review the history of the Prague castle - the seat of czech sovereign, the venue of coronations and the burial site of the emperors. We go inside the St. Vitus cathedral, back in time into the "at the god soaring" gothic, through "all views changing" beautiful rennaisance (Royal palace) following by "full of feelings" baroque (St. Nicolas church), pass grandious palaces in Lesser Town, cross the biggest gallery under the sky – Charles bridge, through the National library back to the Old Town Square. During the walk we'll invite you for a refreshing drink.

For all whose time is limited, for all who like all in one experience, this comprehensive 6 hours tour is right for you! Certainly we will not leave behind the jewels of Prague, we'll take the "classical"route through the Old Town, Jewish Quarter, Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral. After enjoying enchanting wievs from the castle area we will explore Nerudova street - famous for its house signs, home of poets, we will admire the St. Nicolas Church and of course, without INFANT JESUS of Prague the walk would not be complete!

Important part of the cluture is cuisine, we will relax around the table - suitable siesta for your questions - communism time is always Nr. 1. From little squares of Lesser Town, where you can still feel the noble atmosphere we will proceed to the Charles Bridge and finaly board on stylish end of 19th century boat with charming staff, hear the legends and curious events, which accompanied the construction of the bridge.....

Over 1000 years of European and Czech history is written and hidden in walls of the magnificent construction above the river. Not by chance this place was chosen by 2 Emperors of Holy Roman Empire and was even in plans of Adolf Hitler... After a short tram ride to Royal Garden we'll introduce dynasties chronologically, they created and influenced the development of Prague, Czech lands and Europe. Inside the Cathedral – the place of coronations and burial site of statesmen you'll learn about its mysteries and builders. We'll not forget to show you the hidden spots as "spheres of fate", over the 3 courtyards tell exciting stories of kings and presidents (incl. Václav Havel). We'll end up in the famous Golden Lane – as the legend has it, the home of alchemists, visit the exhibition of old weapons and clothes. After this walk you can hang up around the Castle area or walk down with us.

 

COMMUNISM WALK

Old Town Square - Wenceslas Square – Narodni trida – New Town 2 world wars, 3 revolutions, finally we achieved freedom again, living in peace and democracy! We'll concentrate on 20th century, after 1918 as split from Austrian Empire, Czech nation became a state with one of the most powerful economics in Europe but 40 years of communism destroyed nearly everything - our skills, our characters, our selfconfidence, our industry. Now we have freedom again, do we appreciate it or not? Were there some advantages in previous system? What do local people think now after almost 15 years after the revolution? How about EU? Joseph or Anne are happy to give you all practical info and answer all your questions!

 

JEWISH QUARTER and FRANZ KAFKA

Let's go with us for a stroll around synagogues and hear the story of Prague Jewish community, at its time the biggest in Europe, let's try to understand why this nation has such a sad destiny on one hand, on the other very strong ability to rise up again and again... We'll walk past the synagogues, Old Jewish school, unique jewish clock and peaceful cemetery, full of secrets.. Let's compare the documentary pictures from 19th century, as Jewish quarter use to have very interesting structure... FRANZ KAFKA – had lived between 3 different worlds – Germans, Jews, Czechs – moved many times in his short life, we'll show you the places, which influenced his writing and will describe the inspirative atmosphere of the city at the beginning of 20th century – shortly with his words: Prague doesn't let go, either of us. This old crone has claws...

 

PUBS OF THE OLD TOWN

For all who like to socialize, travelling on their own or for couples, do not miss it, as pub culture has old rootes, very long tradition and has a lot to do with the Czech mentality! We are very clever sitting round the table, let's try, if it works for you too! This walk is conducted by enthusiastic guide, who will be very happy to chat with you about all hot topics, from man religion – football to the theme – how to prepere the czech specialty – warm dumplings, can discuss, if our politicians are as smart as yours, can compare with you school system, social security, literature, music... We tried to choose carefuly the most authentic places, with kind of spirit, amongst them Classical microbrewery "U FLEKU" or NEW TOWN BREWERY, let's go and taste our cuisine for "supermodels" – beer and fat, wine and sugar...

 

PRAGUE VENICE, little lanes, its habitants

Let's pause for a while from big themes, grandious palaces, crowded royal streets and let's get lost in the net of tiny little lanes, hidden and pictoresque courtyards... You'll learn history of post, school, when was the water a sewerage laid on, some piquant details from medieaval time, life of ordinary people... Ready for the most romantic UNIQUE SAIL? We'll board on wooden charming boat, crossing Vltava river with its well designed bridges, feel the city from completely different perspective, we'll see beautiful sceneries, voyage direct in channel Čertovka, very similar to the Venice atmosphere, pass the old mills, you'll hear few legends about Charles Bridge and its saints... A very friendly dressed up staff is offering drinks, beer, cake or icecream onboard (incl. in price), simply - the boat with good captain will never founder!

 

GHOST TOUR - esoteric, mysterious Prague

Prague was always a "magnet" for strange creatures, during the centuries attracted lots of scientists, alchemists, artists... Why? Join us tonight and hear about some of Prague's legendary spirits, emperors passion for the occult, Kafka's ghost. Albert Einstein, Mozart were involved!!! In the dark alleys, archways and nooks the desperate souls rise from the dead, grope in passageways, rotten graves open... Ghosts are trying to run away from their terrible trial... You can still smell blood and tears from so many murders, suesides, executions, tortures... You'll be haunted, learn and laugh at once, some of Prague ghosts are really funny !

PRAGUE JEWELS OF CENTRAL EUROPE

This soul inspiring stroll will allow you to partake in Prague's silent story: it's architecture, it's unique culture and spirit, the city's legends, and when we pause to rest (every 1,5 hour), it's pleasant cafes. We'll begin our walk at the top of Wenceslas Square at the National museum, scene of many historical events such as the Velvet revolution in 1989. We'll catch the tram pass the New Town, the National theatre get on funicular railway up the "hill of lovers" - Petřín. We'll disembark directly in front of Prague's "Eiffel tower". After a short walk down a marvelous lane we'll arrive at a most impressive panorama where you will gaze at "the city of one hundred spires". You'll know why all of Central Europe has named it so! This view will leave you breathless! We'll then move on to the Strahov monastery. It's time to relax for a moment. We'll stop for our first complimentary drink or snack. Make sure you speak to your guide about Prague's night life! Our guide will have some hot tips for those who wish to experience something extra special! We'll continue on down a lane that will take you back 300 years back in time, with no sign of the modern world. This is definitely the most romantic part of Prague. We'll arrive at Loretto with its magical treasure, picturesque new world, Prague castle and cathedral, interior of St. Nicolas church, café, Charles bridge, Clementinum... Our walk will end up in the Old Town Square – the historical heart of Prague, enjoy the rest of the day!

There is a saying in the Czech Republic – a Czech man – a musician... For all music fans we have designed following route with the expert on music: Mr. Joseph Vich (for elders), the singer of the National Theatre or Tom – an active drummer, student of Academy of Music.

 

Variant A: Classical musical tour:

Itinerary: Bedrich Smetana, Antonin Dvorak's museums, Bertramka – Mozart's museum, (we always visit 2 of them, after your interest), enroute we'll mention and show places connected with the outstanding personalities – giants of classical music – Franz Liszt, Ludwig van Beethoven, will describe the atmosphere and life at the end of 19, beginning of 20 th century in the city, tell key stories from composer´s lifes, very similar to contemporary enviroment….palaces and theatres, connected with their stay in Prague... Our last stop will be Museum of Instruments, for music lovers very interesting collection from all over the world... We'll make a break where else then Rudolfinum – famous and best neorenaissance concert hall in Prague, where Czech philharmonic orchestra performs... Over coffee we'll not forget to mention other excellent personalities of Czech music scene: Leoš Janaček, Ema Destinova, etc.

Please note: It is possible to organize additionaly trip out of Prague to Nelahozeves, Antonin Dvorak birth place and Nelahozeves Chateau, holding a private collection of manuscripts and instruments too.
