Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic and also the largest in the country. It lies northwest to the center of the Czech Republic on the river Vltava(Moldau), within the central Bohemia region,of which it is the administratory center, but is not part of it as it is a region for itself. Prague is the home to many state institutions many organisations and companies. The President of the country , government, state bodies and the supreme court reside here.

Besides that, Prague houses many bureaus, central authorities, and municipal authorities; political party centrals also reside here, many churches, religous associations with statewide activity registered in the Czech Republic.

Prague has been evolving until today for over 11 centuries. As it is the former metropolitan area of Bohemia and was in the past the city of Czech princes and kings,but also Roman and German emperors and the capital city of Czechoslovakia.

Prague today is spread out on the area of 496 square kilometers and had 1 226 697 inhabitants (stats. from ČSÚ dated to 30. september 2008). The Prague metropolitan area had in the year 2004 (according to Eurostatu) 1 964 750 inhabitants.

Prague is known to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. With its historical city center with an unforgetable panorama of the Prague castle, the largest castle complex in the world, belongs to the world heritage of UNESCO.The historical city centre core contains many historical sites and monuments which attract millions of tourists from every part of the world,which makes Prague one of the most visited cities in Europe.

Prague is a cultural metropolitan area of the Czech Republic, European city of culture 2000. You may find many museums, galeries, theaters, cinemas and many other different cultural institutions. Prague,thanks to its rich history it belongs to the top cities in Europe right after London, Paris, Rome, Madrid and Berlin is sixth most visited in Europe.

Surprisingly high concentration of preserved architectural sights are in Prague because the city hasn't been that badly damaged during WWII (in contrast with other European cities).

Significant elements of Prague are for example Prague castle, The Charles Bridge, The Bridge towers, Old Town Square a Old Town Square Town Hall with the Orloj (Astronomical clock), The Jewish Quarter, The Powder Tower, St. Nicholas Church, The Petrin Tower, Vysehrad, National Theater, Wenceslas Square and others.
